Southport UKUncut held a successful "Town Meeting" in Natwest on Lord Street on Saturday.
The anti-tax avoidance protest group were highlighting the news that Southport Area Committee meetings were due to be scaled back in Council spending cuts. As reported in The Visiter here. As one concerned resident puts it, in a question which will be put to Council Party Leaders on Wednesday night (at the SACC meeting) "You must not cut the number of Southport Area Committees - there is barely enough time to discuss the issues already being put forward. Instead, cut the allowances made for these meetings. Also, cut the number of councillors to one or two per ward."
The protest was conducted peacefully, customers were able to continue to use the bank. The police were called but allowed the protestors to finish their meeting safely. Videos and pictures can be found on the UKUncut facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_176165392421211&ap=1
