About Us

Southport Anti Cuts Coalition is not officially affiliated to any political party. However, representatives of political parties are welcome to join either in their representative or individual capacities. We aim to be a transparent and involved group of ordinary individuals and local organisations who oppose cuts to local services and organisations made by any government. The group is not specifically designed to oppose any government or political party itself. The group will have regular meetings which will act as a forum for people to share their views and experiences and proposals for co-ordinated action.

I would like to keep the group focused on positive and co-ordinated action but also think it is important to have representatives with all kinds of political perspectives involved and hope there will be representatives from all the southport political parties at the meetings.

To help with our opposition to National Cuts which are impacting locally we have voted to affiliate to the apolitical National (and International) umbrella organisation - The Coalition of Resistance against Cuts and Privatisation

The Founding Statement:

"Southport Anti-Cuts Coalition Founding Statement

Southport Anti-Cuts Coalition is an open, broad group set up to expose, oppose and propose alternatives to cuts, job losses and privatisations, which are not in the public interest, on both local and national levels.
We understand that the private sector often depends on public money and contracts and we will support anyone losing their job, being forced to reapply for their job or accept cuts to salary, pension e.t.c. as a result of cuts from central and local government regardless of whether they work in the private or public sector.
An integral part of SACC is raising awareness within the local community about what cuts are being made and how they will affect local people. We are based on contributions from individuals, other groups, political parties, unions, voluntary and advocacy organisations and anyone with an interest.
The term “local” is loosely applied despite the name “Southport Anti-Cuts Coalition”.  We welcome contributions from and opportunities to support other local or national groups or individuals from the rest of Sefton and other adjoining Local Authorities.
The group is open to everybody, regardless of political persuasion or other factors. It is not a group set up to oppose any political party and is independent of political party, union or other involvement in its organisation.  The emphasis is on both independence and unity. We welcome involvement from any interested group or individual and will offer our support to actions other groups are taking.
The actions co-ordinated by SACC do not represent the views of all the individuals or groups that may contribute to SACC. SACC seeks to supplement rather than supplant the efforts of contributors. SACC will act as an independent Umbrella organisation and an information-sharing network to provide opportunities for unified and coordinated action.
As a result it is not necessary for all contributors to agree. SACC will benefit from contributions from a wide range of people and contributors are completely free to decide which campaigns they are involved with and how much they contribute. There are no restrictions on who can contribute and we would welcome involvement from the council and local politicians."
